The work Lacey and I have been doing this week isn't very sexy, but it's crucially important to the more polished look we want to establish for our level art. By rebuilding our tile template, we're adding additional levels of depth to our ground and walls, as well as a variety of decorations and door frames that will blend into their environments more naturally than in our previous model. Here is a comparison of the old template and the new template, which is three and a half times larger and several times more complex.
Lacey has been painting new textures onto the new template while I've been retrofitting our level editor to accommodate new tile types and the additional level of depth. This change will dramatically increase the amount of time involved in painting new templates, and retrofitting our editor may take an additional week of scripting and bug fixing. But we're confident it will give the whole game a more polished and artful look.
Hopefully by next week, I'll be able to get back to some animation work and show off the new parry and dodge roll animations for our heroine!
